Rensis Likert, a renowned American psychologist, made significant contributions to management style research during the mid-20th century.

Our model focuses on management systems ranging from supervision to collaborative approaches, identifying how each system impacts motivation, productivity, and job satisfaction.

Let's explore the essential elements of management together.

1. Introduction

Rensis Likert explored the different ways managers lead their teams and how these management styles influence organizations.
He identified four main management systems, ranging from an autocratic style to a collaborative one.

2. The Four Management Systems:

Supervisory Management: In this system, management has little trust in employees. Decisions are made at the top, and downward communication is primarily punitive.
Authority Control Unilateral Decisions Discipline Organization Clear Instructions Surveillance Demanding
Benevolent Management: Here, management has condescending confidence in employees, akin to a parent-child relationship. Communication is still downward, but with rewards and punishments.
Autonomy Confidence Responsibility Independence Initiative Freedom Flexibility Minimal Support
Consultative Management: Managers have moderate confidence in their employees. Decision-making occurs at higher levels, but employees are consulted and can offer suggestions.
Conviction Communication Sharing Co-creation Synergy Inclusion Engagement Trust
Participative Management: This is the most democratic system. Managers have complete trust in employees. Decision-making is shared, and communication is two-way. This system promotes teamwork and employee motivation.
Collaboration Sharing Inclusion Consultation Engagement Feedback Team Spirit Innovation

3. Example of Management Style: "Participative Management"

In a participative management environment, managers and employees work closely together to set goals, solve problems, and achieve common objectives.
Employees feel valued and involved in the decision-making process, which increases their engagement and motivation.
This style is often associated with improved job satisfaction, increased productivity, and continuous innovation.
It fosters an organizational culture based on trust, collaboration, and mutual respect.

Conclusion:

The Management model offers an in-depth understanding of different management styles and their impact on organizational performance and employee well-being.

Understanding these systems allows leaders and managers to better navigate the complex landscape of team management.

By adapting the right management style to the team's needs and the company culture, it is possible to maximize productivity while ensuring a positive and motivating work environment for everyone.
